Language Arts

The fifth graders are working on reading comprehension strategies. Cause and effect, drawing conclusions, main ideas, and making inferences will be explored. They have practiced their fluency skills by acting out the story Name that American.

In writing the students have moved from great paragraphs to essay structure. They are also practicing elaborating. The fifth graders are enriching their vocabulary. Ms Romeo is excited to see the new words pop up in the papers the students write.

Math

Fourth grade math becomes more challenging as the students move into multiplication and division of whole numbers and decimals. Parents can help by ensuring their students know the multiplication facts! The students will also be examining multiples, factors and fractions.

Science

Energy, forces and motion are the topics for the students in science. The class always has lively discussions and excellent questions. Many of the students have been doing their own research to answer some of those questions. During this quarter the students will be asked to demonstrate Newton’s Law of Motion to show their understanding.

Social Studies

The students will be creating projects on different states in the USA in preparation for the Expo. They are learning research, organization and technology skills in preparation for middle school.

Music

Ms Sarah has chosen two songs for the middle school Multicultural Expo that celebrate America. Ms Romeo is thrilled with the enthusiasm shown by the students to sing -not only together, but also solo!
