The students will be focusing on the letters Q through Z this quarter. They will be able to recognize the letter names and the sounds that match. They will be practicing writing the letters and recognizing the beginning sounds of words. Understanding how sounds are used in language is called phonemic awareness. It is a vital skill needed to learn how to read. The kindergarteners practice their phonemic skills every day through a variety of games.
Math
The students will be practicing counting. They will explore the concepts of large, small, more and fewer. They will focus on the sequence of numbers up to 30.
Science
Kindergarteners love to explore their world, and animal science always sparks a lot of interest and enthusiasm. This quarter the children will be discussing how animals keep warm, the life cycle of a turkey, and hibernation.
Social Studies
Just in time for fall, the class will be learning about Native Americans and the Pilgrims. They will examine the culture and everyday life in the villages of both sets of people. Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, the American flag and the cornucopia will all be studied.
Garden Project
The kindergarteners have planted the pumpkin seeds from their carved pumpkins. The seedlings are growing daily! The students are watering them everyday and are proud of how much they have grown. Please come to our porch and see for yourself!
Music
This quarter the students will be focusing on Japanese and Chinese songs and music.
Field Trip
The kindergarten and first grade classes are planning a field trip to the Zoo at Santa Fe College. The trip will be on November 24th
